Suzaku had finally decided to start the mission Lyle had given him. Suzaku decided to start with Phoebus. He had heard that Phoebus had been spending a lot of time in the market so Suzaku stayed there. Finally after a while Suzaku spied Phoebus and walked up to him. "Good afternoon sir."

Phoebus sighed, looking around the marketplace dully. He had to admit he missed the elite he used to be a part of, even if it was very short-lived. He liked his jobs with structure. A hierarchy may not have been the best way to do so, but the military was supposed to operate on ranks not just guard and palace guard. Then again, he supposed he couldn't complain. A simple guard job was what he had requested in the first place. A voice piped up from behind him and Phoebus turned with a slightly disinterested expression. Surprise took him, but relief did as well. It was nice to see a familiar face. "Oh! Suzaku," Phoebus said with a slight nod. He was thankful he could remember names. "Good afternoon."

Suzaku saluted him and smiled. He remembered his mission. "I wanted to ask you about the thief that you took to jail. What ever came of him." The man's fate had been on his mind for the past couple of days.

Phoebus returned the salute. Then his arms went behind his back. "Ah, yes. The man was easy to prosecute. He couldn't properly justify his reasons for stealing the purse -- he was an easy liar to spot -- so he was put in jail. The jailers didn't specify the period he would stay, but they said it would be a 'moderate' time." Phoebus nodded, as if he had finished concluding a report. He added, "I also mentioned you. I put in the word that you were the one who caught and detained him."

Suzaku nodded and thought about the situation. "I see, thank you Phoebus. It's been interesting trying to get used to the changes around here. How have you been adjusting to all the changes?"

Phoebus blinked a few times at the question, and then tilted his head back as if thoughtful. "Well, admittedly it is tricky. The current set-up is different than previous work experiences, but I suppose it is the way of the desert to constantly change methods. And the war certainly changes things."

Suzaku smiled inwardly. He was glad to see that Phoebus understood the changes. "Yeah its the same way with the snowy areas, we were constantly adapting to the environment."

Phoebus arched an eyebrow, tilting his head to the side. "Oh really?" he said. "It makes sense. Though I can imagine it must have been challenging shifting from a snowy environment to a hot, dry one."

Suzaku thought back to his old life in the snow and shook his head. "It was a change I was glad to make. There was only One thing in that world that meant anything to me."

Phoebus was curious, but he did not bother prying into the matter. Instead he crossed his arms, and looked up to the sky. He nodded knowingly. "I can certainly relate to that. It is nice to get a chance at a new life."

Suzaku nodded "Well this new land is all about second chances. With all the changes who knows what will happen in the future. I'm still wondering how this war will go, it just all happened so suddenly I was in shock when it happened."

Phoebus inwardly grimaced when Suzaku brought up the war. On the outside, it had shown very subtlely by the slight droop of his shoulders. "Ah, yes," Phoebus nodded. "It was very ... spontaneous. Unfortunately, that's how a lot of wars are. Keeping peace is like treading on eggshells. One misstep and everything can go to hell."

Suzaku noticed the slight grimace but told himself it was just because of the war. Suzaku nodded in agreement before saying, "I know the problems of war but sometimes it's unfortunately something we will always have to face no matter where we go."

Phoebus sighed. "It seems so. I once had hopes that a perfect utopia without war and destruction could exist, but it seems like such things are well within human nature. And such is the life of a soldier," he shrugged in a way that said it couldn't be helped. "Doing the best we can to tame these conflicts ..."

Suzaku agreed and frowned as he thought back to when he had first become a guard and had thought he had found a perfect land. He let out a sigh and shook his head. "Unfortunately people are the same no matter where you go. I still strive to make this world as safe as l can. No one should be born into war."
