Phoebus sighed. "I'm not denying his intelligence. He did appear to have an inkling that I may be connected to you, but it still can't hurt to take precautions." He walked over to the closet and put the now bundled knife on the top shelf inside. He pushed it back. When she started speaking in a cockier tone, Phoebus's eyes hardened and he looked to her like an annoyed parent trying to calm their rambunctious child. "Don't be foolish," he said. "If Lyle's handing out silver knives, and the mere touch of it burned your tail, I would consider being a little more cautious. I daresay even caring!" His patience was beginning to wane thin.
When she ran out into the hall and started making a commotion with her arms, Phoebus slapped his hand on his face and the loud sigh he had stifled before left him. Fuming on the inside, he withdrew his hand and dropped it to his side. Both hands curled into fists by his hips. "I care," he confessed in a very low, almost inaudible voice. His teeth were gritted again like a snarling wolf. When she was finally done talking, Phoebus straightened up and crossed his arms. "For someone who doesn't care about dying, you seemed pretty upset at the thought of me trying to kill you," Phoebus retorted. "And you're only alive to humour me? If you want to humour me, why don't you just go so I don't have to worry about you being here in my room? Humour me! Do whatever the hell you want but don't be ridiculous about it. At least try to act like you don't want to die. At least ..." He turned away from her. "You fulfilled your reason for coming here, so why would it be in your interest to stay longer?"

Chainey pulled her ears forward, watching him react was very amusing. "I just wanted to see your reaction." She confessed with a childish grin, knowing the real reason she wanted to live was because of her father. She knew in her heart that only hate would bind the werewolf and her together, but the thought of someone being like her thrilled her spirit. She pointed her ears back when he asked her to humor him and leave. She climbed off the bed and walked behind him. She put her around around him, her tail sliding up his leg and drifting at his stomach. "Maybe I have other interests?" She offered, then paused for dramatic effect.
After a bit, her tail slid down and her hands dropped to her side. "Like tea!" She ran over to her bag and pulled out some cups and tea pot for boiling. "Look okay, silver can kill me, but it's slow. I wouldn't really like to slowly burn from the inside out, so I'm more worried at the method you would choose to kill me with. Chopping off my head works better, and don't worry, I trust you to the degree of not killing me. That and I can easily overtake you in a fight." She puffed out her chest a bit proudly, then her wings extended. She folded them back and walked over to the door. She paused, "Hmm, why don't you go make some tea since you're so worried about me getting caught?" She offered him the pot and leaves. "And don't get hurt, because I care about you too." She smiled and kissed his cheek.

"Oh. Of course you did," Phoebus said blandly. He shook his head. It would explain why she seemed so insistent on pushing his buttons. She reminded him of a child when she got this way. Children liked attention, and they would do anything to get it. They would do anything to get a bad or good reaction. She came close to him when his back was turned. His body shivered. He could feel her touch, hear the soft swells of her breathing. Chainey's tail was warm, scoping up his body by his stomach. She shouldn't have been able to unnerve him like this. Her words made his throat feel dry. He stiffened. "Other interests?" Phoebus wasn't sure what she meant by that, but at the same time, there was a suggestion deep in the knots of his stomach.
While it normally would have, her random exclamation didn't surprise him this time. He was still staring blankly ahead with a tense body. Slowly, he turned to see her rummaging in a bag she had brought. "I see," he said, dragging out the words carefully as if trying to make sense of them. Her excitement began to catch him off-guard. It started peeling away at his hard layers like nails scratching painted walls. "... Tea." Phoebus looked at her with frustrated eyes again. "Tea." he repeated. "Please tell me that this is just more joking around." She made it clear that it wasn't when she told him not to get hurt and then kissed his cheek. Involuntarily, her lips against his skin made him soften up. It was like popping a balloon of tension. It made him feel warm all over. He hated that so much. Much to his chagrin, he actually accepted the pot and leaves from Chainey. He looked down at them lamely and then looked back up. "Fine," he said curtly. "I'll make tea. But you have to leave after." Swiftly, he left without another word and began to make tea in another room. A guard looked at him questioningly, probably wondering why Phoebus was carrying a little teapot around, but after Phoebus issued one of his most powerful death stares, the guard immediately looked away. Once the tea was done, he returned to his room and closed the door behind him.

Chainey watched him leave, her heart relaxing a bit as it had been beating when she touched him. She didn't really like to admit that he made her feel at home and her heart alive. She sighed a bit and walked to the window, sitting beneath it as she would be leaving from it when the tea was done. She honestly didn't want to, but she guessed it was only fair. Her ears pointed back and she drifted into her mind for a moment. She thought about each of the men and women she had trained, how each one had a different color, a different scent. However, if they all were different, why was Phoebus's smell so strong? His color so vibrant? She shrugged, perhaps this was what it meant to have a friend.
She pointed her ears forward when he came in, her tail grabbing the sheet off of his bed to wrap around her shoulders. "Excellent, thank you Phoebus." She put her ears back and smiled, sitting up proudly. She set the cups out, then her ears moved forward. "Phoebus, tell me about the your family... Did you have a father? What was he like?" She asked, leaning forward a bit as she looked passed him. "I mean I've never really had a family, so I'm quite curious as to how they work." She admitted.

Phoebus bobbed his head in one serious nod. "You're welcome." He poured himself a cup, thick steam rising up from it, and leaned against the wall. He closed his eyes, inhaling the sweet aroma of the tea and took a sip. What Chainey asked of him made him freeze. His eyes opened and he withdrew the cup from his lips, looking at her with a questioning tilt of the head. She clarified why she wanted to know more about him, and for a moment, he felt sympathetic. He set his tea down on the desk and crossed his arms, leaning against the wall once more.
"I don't think my family was very standard ... we were more upper-class. It was me, my parents, and my younger sister, Rose. My parents were often busy in affairs such as business or entertaining guests. They were social butterflies as you can imagine from a richer family. Sitting through those parties was dreadful. My father and mother were pretty similar actually. Well-suited for each other. They were about enjoying life's material pleasures and fine wine and music. They liked to have fun, but they didn't like nonsense. They made sure of that when they raised us. Rose and I were not to cause any problems. Ever." He smirked and then leaned forward to pick up his tea again. "Although because they were busy people, it was more of Rose and I raising ourselves. We were close, we looked out for each other."

Chainey was silent, listening to his story with her ears forward. She admired his talk of family, she guessed it must have been hard when he left them behind. She wouldn't really know, but she had heard of the pain of losing someone loved. Her mother was the only person she had ever lost, but she didn't care much for her, not in the way a child should. They were more like cell mates than mother and daughter.
She put her ears back and took a sip of her tea, the aroma relaxing her wings to the ground. "They sounds wonderful." she commented, after licking her lips. She put the tea cup down and turned her head to look out the window. "Mother used to whisper about clans with members of the same blood, so I guess they were like a family. Werewolves have packs mother said, but not all packs are close, some are large." She decided to give him some information locked in her head. It felt nice to get it out. "My mother lead the clan she came from, and she said my father was an alpha. I guess that makes me a hybrid princess." She shrugged.

Phoebus gave a small shrug when she said they sounded wonderful. "Yes, I suppose so." He wasn't sure how he had felt about them. They were away from home a lot, always too busy, always lavishing themselves with social interaction. Several months before Phoebus had joined the military, his parents were gone so often that it was mostly Rose and Phoebus on their own. Even when Rose ran off to elope they weren't around. If someone asked Phoebus for a detailed personality profile on his parents, he wasn't sure if he would be able to answer in full.
Chainey revealed more about her past, and Phoebus drank his tea in silence as he listened. Steam continued to gently warm his face. "That's interesting," Phoebus confessed with a small nod, meaning it. When she commented that she was a hybrid princess, Phoebus put his empty cup of tea down on the table and smiled. "Ah, a captain and a princess? Should I address you as 'Your Majesty' then? Or Princess Chainey?" The smile softened, thinning out a bit, and he looked down at the ground. His arms crossed against his chest.

Chainey ignored his comment and rose to her feet. "I should be going." She decided, blushing a bit from his smile. She realized she hadn't seen it in awhile, probably since she came into his room at such a strange time. She turned, her tail flicking back. "Keep the tea." She encouraged, grabbing her bag and stepping into the window pane. She then leaped from the window and stretched her wing, one of them having a few scratches from the week before. She soured into the night, leaving behind someone she wished she could keep company with. "Goodbye, Phoebus..." She whispered, to herself, then glided away into the night.
