Chainey's ear was ringing, so it was quite hard to pay attention to anything else. She crouched into the water, her wing wrapping around for her to lick, taking back the blood she had lost to the rocks. She touched the wound on her head, cringing a bit before dropping her claw. She stood up much like a merekat at that moment, realizing she hadn't really paid attention to where Phoebus was. She didn't want him to be caught anywhere near her, or get hurt simply for being around her.
The man retained a stubborn attitude, even after being quite fearful of Phoebus. He was much taller and larger than the scrawny man that lay on the ground. The man narrowed his eyes, mustering up enough courage to talk on. "Oh, you mean the one that caused this war?" He dared, looking back to the women. "She lost her son to that beast's war, so why don't you tell that to HER." He suggested bitterly, spitting at Phoebus before climbing to his feet. "Why don't you arrest the real criminal? Aren't you supposed to be protecting this city? Protect us from THAT!" He pointed to Chainey with a dull and bitter expression. The women had backed away from them, silently shedding a tear for being reminded of her son.
Chainey's ears pointed back, she could hear well enough to know what the man was talking about. She walked to the shore, looking down. The man's jaw tensed and he backed up a bit, grabbing a rock and aiming it at her. Chainey touched Phoebus's shoulder, then grabbed his hand and put it on top of her hand. "He was just about to take me in, before you came up." She lied, not really trying to act well, she doubted they cared if it was truth or not, just as long as she left them alone. She put her head on Phoebus's arm at the top, pushing against it to move him. "I'll come quietly..." She promised, her ears back and one eyed closed from some blood that had leaked over it. One wing was tucked away, the other bent over and was colored differently from all the bruises it had acquired.

Phoebus found himself slipping back into that abyss. That dark abyss where the anger was so strong it wasn't even noticeable. It was a toxic scent to breathe in. A red colour that was invisible and hung heavy in the air. He cracked his knuckles, and looked down at the man darkly. "You're a brave one, peasant. Care to spit that spiteful chatter out again? You're right, I am here to protect the city. I'm here to protect it from ignorant people like you. The idiots are the ones who start wars. And it is also the people like you who blame everyone but themselves. Quit victimizing yourself like a whiny ingrate and face reality." When the man grew tense and aimed another rock, Phoebus took a step forward. "Go ahead. Throw the rock. I dare you. I dare you to see what happens when you intervene with the law."
He was just about ready to pummel the man into a bloody pulp with torn skin and hair all over the place, but Chainey came forward and put his hand on hers. Phoebus softened, all of the harsh tension in his body suddenly dissolving. It didn't stop the surprise however. He looked to her with a questioning look in his eye. Phoebus held Chainey's hand firmly. It appeared to be a forceful gesture on the outside, but it was actually quite protective, as if to shield her from further danger. He didn't want to let her go when violent peasants were on the loose. "Good. We will continue on before that rude interruption," Phoebus said coldly through gritted teeth. He gave the attacking man a sour look. "Remember, sir. It is innocent until proven guilty. Do not interfere with my work or the work of others again." A menacing flash of fire burned in his eyes and it dropped to his voice. "Understood?"
Without another word, he scooped up his shirt, and then led Chainey away. He glanced over his shoulder with an icy stare, watching the man to make sure he wasn't stupid enough to throw more rocks. Once they were gone in the shadows, Phoebus's grip on Chainey's hand softened, his thumb brushing over her palm gently, and he let go. He dropped his head slightly, looking at the ground as they continued to walk. "You should have just let me hurt him," Phoebus said. "It's an eye for an eye. If he hurts someone else, he gets hurt himself. It's as simple as that." He paused and said, "Are you in a lot of pain? I can clean up the blood and sew any cuts you may have. I can also ease the bruises ..."

The man smirked a bit when he watched Chainey's slow movements, satisfied he had caused the creature hurt. He nodded slowly to Phoebus's warning, but his face showed he didn't really care what he was agreeing to. The women ran to the man's arm and the two continued down to the water's edge. Chainey's ears were back as he held her hand, not really minding the grip, she found it strangely comforting. She put her healed ear forward and looked back when they were clear of the viewing of others. She then set down by the wall of the city, chunks of the rubble of a fire lay beside her. She seemed to fit against the wall, like a broken gargoyle burning down with it's empire. She pointed the only healed ear that remained forward once more, as she had flicked it back to sit down. "No."
She said no more for a moment, her voice soft and a small smile crossing her lips. "We would be in trouble if you looked just like me." She lightly teased, then cringed as her bruises reminded her she wouldn't be able to glide for quite awhile. She put her ear back and looked up to him, reaching to take his hand and pulling gently on it to beckon him to sit with her. "I'm used to it, Phoebus, don't worry. Lord knows-" She looked up with a smile, "This body has experienced all kinds of scorn." She returned her gaze passed him. "I'm always in pain." She choked out, a painful expression crossing her face and her ears falling back tighter. "Such is the way it is... Like never being comfortable I guess, there is always an organ that feels out of place, a cut or bruise that reminds of mortality, or a lust for the substance that gives life to vampires." She admitted, then looked down.
She smiled at his offer, "I would like that very much, actually." She didn't normally allow anyone to touch her wounds, in fact, she couldn't remember the last time anyone had. She normally dressed her own wounds, or drank enough blood to replenish her body's quick healing abilities. She felt around for him for a bit, clearly effected by her loss of an ear. When she found his arm, she frowned. "You should put your shirt back on, it's cold for humans." She encouraged, the look of a mother worried for her child crossed over her face. She stretched her wounded wing across his lap. "You're too good to me, Phoebus. You are unlike any soldier I have ever trained." She smiled, closing her eyes and leaning her head back against the wall.

Chainey said no to his earlier comment, and he simply shrugged. They had a differing opinion. She may have held peace more, but quite frankly, that man deserved to be battered and bruised. He was cowardly and disrespectful. Phoebus had no tolerance for people like that. He really tried, but it was frustrating. Breaking apart from old habits and beliefs was difficult. In ways, he figured it probably wouldn't have happened. They were there to be an obstacle for his redemption. "No far from it," Phoebus assured her even though he knew she was teasing. He looked to her with narrowed eyes. "Well, I would think in battles but not barbarians on the streets --" He cut himself short, realizing that he couldn't talk considering his track record. After a moment, he sat next to her, resting his hands on his lap. "I can't imagine what that must be like," he admitted. "I admire your strength and endurance, Lady -- I mean Chainey."
Phoebus nodded. "All right," he said. He reached into his boot. Along with the knife strapped near his ankle, there was also a medical pouch. He had been trained to always carry one with him, because it made patching up easier on the battlefield. They were taught the basics as soldiers, and then when Phoebus became captain, he earned more advanced privileges. The bag was tightly shut, fastened around the edges with a small piece of rope for sanitation reasons. Chainey said he should probably put his shirt on, and then his eyes stretched to the size of large plates. How did he not realize he was still shirtless? "Uh, right, right." Phoebus slipped it back on and tugged it down to his hips. Then he opened up the pouch and took out what he needed.
"That is very unusual," Phoebus said, gently guiding her wing into a better position. He started by cleaning away any blood he saw, dabbing at it with moistened cotton. "I would think that the other soldiers would be similar. If an equal or a superior is hurt, it is an obligation to help them get well." He noticed a few cuts and warned Chainey that he would sew them up. He was silent and focused as he worked on healing her. Then when there was a pause in his procedure, he finally said, "It's not a matter of being too good either. I don't see why you should have to go through any of that at all. If I see that man again, I will hurt him whether you like it or not."

Chainey stared straight ahead, her ear slowly switching as it tried to move forward as well. The slap of skin that was her ear simply dragged across the back of her cheek, so she returned it to a back position. "It's very normal, I wouldn't think too much of my strength. All vampires know how to handle pain, and all werewolves are said to be able to handle scorn." She blamed her attributes on her DNA. She closed her eyes as she felt his hard hands against her skin. She loved how they glided across her wing, it felt so reassuring, so beautiful and peaceful, like waves against the shore.
She didn't flinch when he cleaned off the blood, but she narrowed her eyes a bit when he started to sew up her cuts. She put one ear forward, then wrapped her arm around his neck. Perhaps she would blame it on her balance? She simply wanted to be closer to him, a strange warmth originated from him, even if his body temperature was cold to her. It wasn't the kind of heat one felt when near a fire, but more of an inner heat. She then leaned her head over, a hard task without fidgeting her wing, but since he had haulted, she thought it was the perfect time. She put her ear back and kissed the side of her head, just above his ear, on his temple, right where she had received her own wound. "I'll accept you no matter what you chose." She whispered against his ear, then leaned back. She smiled in a very flirtatious manner, although it could also be considered the smile of a mother knowing something her child didn't. She then closed her eyes and leaned back, completely content in his care. "Come to me whenever you please, I'll take you as you are, nothing more, nothing less." She assured him, a way of saying it was alright if he went against her wishes.
(( >< CRACK!!! Now I'm shipping these two like FedEx.... ))

Phoebus didn't really pay attention when she put her arm around his neck, choosing to continue focusing on his work. It was when he paused and she leaned in to kiss his head that his eyes widened a bit. This was simply one of those chivalrous things. If a man appeared to be nice to a woman then she showed her gratitude. That was what he was taught anyway. Yet it felt like something else than that. He wasn't sure what, and he wasn't sure if he liked it or not, but he couldn't deny it was comforting. His eyebrows quirked upward at her words. While he was normally very clever at reading facial expressions, Chainey's was hard to figure out. It appeared to be sly, but possibly flirtatious? He mentally shook his head, knowing that the latter was completely nonsensical. "All right, good. Don't think I'll back out of my word." Phoebus smirked. If he did see the man again, he knew it would be childish to run after him, but tripping the man down a hill and then accidentally bumping into a merchant cart to follow wouldn't look as bad as outright beating him.
He finished tending to her wounds, sanitized the materials, and then packed them back up into the pouch. He fastened the strap near the knife on the inside of his boot. He rubbed his hands off and looked down at the wing, silently inspecting his handiwork. Phoebus looked to Chainey without saying anything, his eyes wide and observant. Then he said, "Thank you. I certainly wouldn't mind visiting again." He looked out into darkness, scanning it as if for safety, and held out his hand to Chainey. "Do you wish to return to the inn now?"
((Haha you are, eh? Ooo put them in a FedEx crack! XD))

(( Hahaha, I should!! But you can use it instead, I've got to make some plot videos before I can do anymore crack. ^^ ))
Chainey looked to her wings, her ears listening to the clicks and sounds of his boots as he strapped away the medical kit. She stretched her other wing out, then twitched the wounded one. Her eyes fixed straight as he reached his hand out to her. She felt around for it, once she found it though, she simply bent her head down to touch her forehead to his hand. " In an ideal world, perhaps I could go back to the inn with you." She lifted her head and put her ear back.
"Sadly, I have no cloak, you have no rope to restrain me to even pull off a lie, and.." She paused, lifting her head to the wind. " And I must feed to survive.. I will hunt now." She put her ear back and rose quickly to her feet, her injured wing drifting away from his lap. She flicked her tail, then turned her back to him. " We will meet again, dog." She turned her head so he could see her grin. This was the first time she had called him any canine name other than puppy. She then took off, quite fast, dodging the city lights and candles by staying close to shadows. She climbed the hay loft to the top of a barn, then glided across the night sky. Her wing bent a bit and she fell to the ground, but she simply held a claw around her chest to her wing, then ran off. She vanished against the darkness.

((Haha I shall consider it XD))
Phoebus looked taken aback by Chainey's words. He folded his arms across his chest, looking at her inquisitively. "Are you sure? I mean, I could simply just assert some force if anyone gave a bad enough look." She said that she would have to feed more, and while Phoebus wasn't sure he fully bought it, he did understand after the rather gruesome display earlier that she would have to do so. It was an ugly truth, but it was reality. Her goodbye made him flinch and straighten with surprise. His lips parted. To anyone else, being called a "dog" would seem peculiar and perhaps even derogatory, but since Phoebus knew the context, he couldn't help but feel immensely flattered and honoured. Even though she couldn't see it, he bowed his head. When it bobbed back up, his lips were curled up in a grin similar to hers. "I look forward to it," he said, and then watched her disappear into the night. He stayed sitting a while longer and then stood up, smiling to himself as he headed back to the main house.
